The Durubas are one of the most famous ethnic groups of Orissa .The prople of this tribe worship the lord "SHIva" , in the form of "lingam " . The place gets its name from the fact that there is a cave nearby which has Stalegmite in the form of a " lingam ", which is hidden . In the local dialect this is called " gupta " meaning secret and ishwara meaning "god " . So the place is known as Gupteswar .
The ethnic villages are famous for its simplicity and the life styles of the tribals . It is advisable to check with the village head or the chief about the rituals A death in the village is a community ritual , and during such days , visitors are not appreciated .
Similarly in a wedding , the guest is invited cordially and the rites and rituals explained . These people are in there best attires on the market days . It is always better to plan the trips in such a way that the tourist is able to see the market .
